This is Kelly.

She’s our dog. She’s scared of loud noises. She hides when she hears gun shots from the hunters outdoors. She hides when a storm blows in. She also thinks she’s a cat. (This is Luke.)

We used to have another dog, Smores. Kelly and Smores were best buds. They would hang out together and chase away all the cats. Smores was hit by a car. Kelly became desperate for company. She allowed the cats, actually just the male cats, to hang out with her. She’s started acting like a cat. She licks and cleans herself like a cat. But with her, it’s a loud slurping noise. She likes to do this in the middle of the night.

Last night, I let Kelly into our bedroom to sleep. I knew when the storms rolled through she’d be searching for us anyway. As a preemptive strike, I let her start out there. But at 2:00 am she started cleaning herself, with the loud SLURP, SLURP, SLURP. I’m telling her to stop it, but it’s too late. We’re both awake.

We’re dragging a little bit today. Tonight the dog is sleeping elsewhere. Anyone want to adopt a dog?
